An Athlete’s Travel Bag

An Athlete’s Travel Bag

Packing for travel games can we overwhelming. Not only do you need your usual travel essentials, but you also need to pack your uniform, snacks, some post-game recovery gear and–maybe, even–study materials.

Sports Gear:

First thing you need to pack is your uniform. You don’t want to show up to a match without your uniform–team jersey, shorts, socks and all necessary protective gear. For the actual match you’ll need some suitable footwear so cleats, sneakers, and maybe some backup comfortable shoes for off-field time. A water bottle is key–and maybe a sports drink too. Once your off the field and done you might want some backup clothing and recovery tools like compressions socks or a foam roller–whatever you like best–some just rather stretch it out old-school too.

Personal Care Items:

Still, this is a trip so those travel toiletries are also necessary. Don’t forget to bring your toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant! Sunscreen is definitely a must for outdoor sports. While each player might not bring their own, it’s a good idea for the team to have some basic first aid kit with antiseptic wipes, band-aids and pain relievers.

Travel Essentials:

If you need a ticket remember your ID too! But, a good athlete knows that recovery time and preparation as just, if not more important for optimal match performance. Bring a neck pillow or noise-cancelling headphones, if those are your treats. Or maybe you prefer to read a book or watch a movie to relax before the game.

Academic Commitments:

While student-athletes love their sport, they are also committed to their academic pursuits. Sometimes travel requires some study time so taking any necessary study materials is key. A laptop or notebooks are important, but the most is a good study plan. Knowing what assignments are due, which classes you are missing, and planning to finish all task in time is the hardest part of all. Plan and manage your time effectively.

And more!

Like all trips, there are always some miscellaneous things to bring. Maybe its going to rain so you take an umbrella or warmer jacket. Or maybe you like to take an extra Ziplock bag for wet or dirty clothes. Bring your camera if you like and remember chargers!

These are just some of the basics, but creating a checklist can help you keep track of everything. A good athlete travel bag requires a blend of sport gear, personal iteams and travel basics to be well prepared for the game and journey. Make this list your own and adjust according to duration of the trip and preferences.
