The Student Athlete Scholars (SAS), a merit-based society made up of pillars of excellence in academics and athletics, takes pride in highlighting the achievements of their exceptional members. One such notable member from the Class of 2025 is Makenna Paige Gentry, a volleyball phenom and academic exemplar from Scott City High School, Scott City, Missouri.
SAS is all about obtaining admissions into prospective higher educational institutions on merits, a feat Makenna embodies wholly. Our initiative focuses on offering mentorship to potential student-athlete scholars and aiding them with any concerns, expectations, or queries regarding their academic journey. We believe Makenna will make a phenomenal mentor after her collegiate career, based on her exemplary balance between her academics and athletics.
Today, we celebrate Makenna Paige Gentry, Class of 2025, for her well-roundedness, perseverance, and the blazing trail she’s set in both academia and her sport.
As a standout on the volleyball team, Makenna’s performances have been nothing short of extraordinary. An All-Conference and All-District Second Team member, she set a new school record for the most aces in a single season, solidifying her place as a pivotal member of the team. Her athletic prowess is intimately coupled with her academic performance, displaying her multifaceted nature which SAS acknowledges.
Academically, Makenna maintains a high standing, boasting an impressive 3.7 GPA. Her academic dedication has displayed her capability to withstand the pressure that comes with juggling sports and academics— a common challenge for student-athletes. The candidness in her accomplishments captures one of the objectives of SAS, which is to assist athletes to shine in all aspects during college admissions.
However, Makenna’s journey is just beginning. With her acceptance to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in fall 2025, she is gearing up for her next challenge. Combining her love for volleyball and her academic aspirations, she aims to become a Research Pharmacist, playing for her university team while concurrently pursuing a rigorous Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
Makenna’s story, undeniably, resounds with the spirit of leadership, service, and community building that SAS represents. Her stellar performance in both academics and athletics is inspirational, proving that potential SAS scholars can also thrive in multiple spheres.
As we observe and admire Makenna’s journey, SAS will continue fostering platforms that assist high performing student-athletes, shining a spotlight on their hard work and contributions. She leaves a legacy at Scott City High School and sets a precedent for future SAS members to aspire towards. Congratulations to Makenna and best of luck with her journey ahead!
